If you just bought yourselves a shiny new Nokia N9, you are probably eager to connect it to your computer and fill those 16 or 64 GB with tons of multimedia. And, boy, does Nokia have the tool for you.

A Romanian online retailer has listed the MeeGo-running Nokia N9 for €550 on pre-order. If you want a more trustful source, Amazon.de takes pre-orders, too, but it's demanding €620.
This Romanian retailer is taking the N9 pre-orders for €550 (a hat tip to Robert S. for pointing it out). For a gray market price it sounds reasonably for the launch, although it's more expensive than most of the high-end droids today.
The German Amazon also has the N9 on pre-order, but it's even more expensive - €620.



So these prices should give us the basic idea of what to expect at Nokia N9's launch. It will cost a small fortune for sure, but we bet it will drop price in a month or so. After all the N9 is a smartphone with limited availability and doubtful support, so pricing should reflect that.
Update: We also received a tip from a trustful source that Nokia N9 will launch in Norway at €570 (incl. taxes) near the end of this month.

Et tu, Intel? Rumor has it that Intel will be temporarily discontinuing development on MeeGo's development - which coming after Nokia basically put MeeGo in the background as a platform for "long-term market exploration", may well mean the end of the platform.



Intel is, of course, denying such rumors, saying that they are still committed to the Linux-based OS.
MeeGo had high ambitions to power anything from smartphones through car infotainment systems to netbooks. So far, we've seen only one MeeGo smartphone (plus one developer-only phone), but that's about it.
Now the rumor mill is pointing towards Android and Windows Phone as the OSes of choice for Intel's handset platforms (remember Pineview?) and saying that the chip giant will stick to hardware from now on.
Of course, MeeGo is an open source platform and even if Intel throws in the towel, the OS can go on as a community project. But that would mean no dedicated MeeGo hardware - just ports of the OS to various existing products.
We'll see how things go, this may turn out to be nothing but a rumor. Considering how few products have made it to the market, however, MeeGo isn't looking too hot even with continued support from Intel.

The Nokia N9 is the first MeeGo handset to launch out of the Finish giant and the world seems to just can't get enough of it. And today we have some great news for you - despite Nokia's claims the N9 has FM radio receiver and an FM Transmitter in its premium-quality plastic body.
So while the Nokia N9 specs sheet claims that the smartphone has no FM radio, let alone FM transmitter the hardware is actually there. That was confirmed by no other than Nokia itself on one of its developer websites.

Gartner released their report on the mobile phone world in the second quarter and have something very interesting in their numbers - Nokia is sill number one in smartphones, rather than third as other analysts have stated.
The difference comes from which numbers are taken into account - others counted the number of units shipped and not the number of units purchased by end users, which is exactly what Gartner was looking at.

Windows Phone 7 Mango was released to manufacturers about three weeks ago and it seems that testing is going well. Sources now claim that the first major update for Microsoft's new mobile OS is going to become publicly available on 1 September.
The first big update for WP7 was NoDo and its roll out wasn’t as smooth as Microsoft would have liked, despite releasing a very minor update first that was supposed to set the ground for NoDo.
Hopefully, this time everyone has done their job as the rumored 1 September deadline is approaching fast. It's a well picked time for an update, just in time for IFA (2-7 September), which will have major manufacturers gathered and showing their new devices.

The next major software update for Microsoft Windows Phone 7, codenamed Mango, is complete. Microsoft handed over the Mango update to its carrier and hardware partners on July 26, although there’s no announced date for when existing WP7 smartphones will see the software. Nor are there any official release dates for new phones that will run on Mango: Yes, I’m looking at you Nokia.

We've developed a bit of a soft spot for the Nokia N9 and it keeps giving us little treats that we just can't get enough of. Today's treat is a compilation of stock video footage taken directly from the N9 and edited into a single clip.
